MY LIFE'S JOURNEY

From Business To Nature, From Success To Service

The Letter That Changed My Life

The Letter That Changed My Life

Why I Walked Away from Success to Follow a Greater Purpose

Some decisions surprise the world. Others change your life forever.

In December 2013, I wrote a letter that surprised almost everyone who knew me.

It announced that on 15 February 2014, I would hand over the responsibility of Green Mall to my children and begin an entirely new chapter of my life.

The reaction was almost immediate.

“Why would anyone leave a successful business?”

It was a fair question.

Green Mall had become much more than a nursery. It was a living experiment in environmental conservation, landscaping, rare plant collections and sustainable living. Thousands of visitors had walked through its gardens. Years of hard work had transformed a dream into reality.

Yet, deep inside, another dream had already begun to grow.

Success Had Given Me Everything Except One Answer

My professional journey had taken me to more than sixty countries.

I had built businesses, travelled extensively, met remarkable people and experienced opportunities beyond my imagination.

Yet one question refused to leave me.

What is the true purpose of a human life?

Is it only to earn more?

Expand more?

Acquire more?

Or should success eventually become a platform to serve humanity?

That question stayed with me for years.

One sentence kept returning to my mind.

“I am not a money-making machine. There are many things to give humanity.”

That sentence quietly changed the direction of my life.

A Decision My Family Made Possible

No life-changing decision is made alone.

Before announcing my plans publicly, I discussed them with my family.

My children understood that another mission was calling me.

Instead of asking me to continue leading Green Mall, they encouraged me to pursue the work I believed I had been preparing for throughout my life.

My wife, Ayoma, accepted the decision with remarkable calm and faith.

Their trust made my decision possible.

Without them, this story would never have been written.

Green Day 2014

Every winter, Green Mall celebrated Green Day.

It was not a business event.

It was a celebration of nature.

The campus came alive like a village carnival.

Fresh idli, dosa and vada.

Kachori and sabji.

Hot jalebis.

Beguni.

Fruit salads.

Chats.

Fuchka.

Freshly crushed sugarcane juice.

Visitors enjoyed simple vegetarian meals while walking through thousands of plants from around the world.

The coconut water served that day was not purchased from a market.

It was freshly plucked from the hundreds of coconut trees growing within the Green Mall campus.

That was Green Mall’s philosophy.

Nature should not merely be admired.

It should be experienced.

Nearly 1,500 guests had been invited.

Nature, however, had different plans.

A steady February drizzle continued throughout the morning.

Only about 200 guests managed to reach Green Mall.

Because of the rain, lunch had to be shifted from the usual palm grove to the godown across the road.

Oddly, I never felt disappointed.

Nature had taught me many lessons over the years.

Perhaps this was one more.

“This Is Not the End…”

Standing on the stage, I knew many people believed they had come to attend my farewell.

I smiled and began with a touch of humour.

“आप में से कुछ सोच रहे होंगे कि यह ओल्ड एज होम में जाने जैसा है, जहाँ कुछ लोगों के जीवन का अंतिम चरण शुरू होता है। लेकिन मेरे लिए यह जीवन की एक नई शुरुआत है।”

“Some of you may be thinking that this is like moving to an old-age home, where life enters its final chapter. But for me, this is the beginning of an entirely new life.”

The audience laughed.

The atmosphere immediately became lighter.

Then I explained that Green Mall would continue under the leadership of the next generation.

My own journey, however, was taking a different direction.

Nature had taught me countless lessons.

Now I wanted to dedicate my remaining years to understanding humanity, civilisation and the forgotten heritage of Bharat.

That vision would later become Glories of India.

The Morning I Left

A few days later, the time had come.

Unlike Green Day, that morning was bright, sunny and pleasantly cool.

I woke at 4:00 a.m. for my daily Amrit Vela meditation.

Later, I quietly walked around the Green Mall campus.

Every tree carried a memory.

Every pathway reminded me of years of work.

I was dressed simply, as I had been for several years—a white cotton kurta, white pyjama and a white sleeveless jacket.

Long ago, I had quietly stopped wearing suits, ties and business shirts.

Without announcing it, my outer life had begun reflecting my inner journey.

Before leaving, two Brahma Kumari sisters from the meditation centre within the Green Mall campus applied chandan tilak to my forehead and offered toli as a blessing for the journey ahead.

A Farewell Without Words

By 6:30 a.m., the nursery workers had already reported for duty.

As I prepared to leave, many of them quietly gathered near the entrance.

Nobody hugged me.

Some folded their hands.

Many touched my feet.

Almost every eye carried tears.

One sentence echoed again and again.

“Sir, please come back soon.”

Those few words carried more emotion than any farewell speech.

At that moment, I realised that institutions are built not only with ideas, but with relationships.

The Journey Begins

Waiting outside was a silver Toyota Innova.

My trusted driver, Ramesh, had been with me for many years.

In the boot were a few clothes.

Inside the vehicle were far more books than clothes.

Looking back today, I smile at the symbolism.

I was carrying only enough to live.

Everything else I carried was meant to help me learn.

As the vehicle slowly moved forward, the songs of Prakriti Ki Pukar drifted gently through the campus.

Years earlier, I had created those songs to inspire people to respect nature and live in harmony with Prakriti.

Without anyone planning it, they became the soundtrack of my own departure.

I folded my hands one last time.

Travelling had always been my time for introspection, meditation and reflection.

I rarely looked outside the window.

The real journey had already begun within.
